Plan for Your Family's Future With Our Probate Services

Raccio Law, LLC is very familiar with our state's probate process and minimizes the potential for complications. Probate in Connecticut is the legal process for paying a person’s debts and expenses and distributing property after death. Probate can be an involved process, requiring extensive documentation and materials from the surviving family members and estate.

Usually, a decedent’s debts are paid from the estate and any property remaining is divided among heirs or beneficiaries, according to a Will (died testate). If the decedent did not leave a Will (died intestate) the heirs to the estate will be determined according to the Uniform Probate Code and/or the laws of intestate succession.

Trusted Estate Planning Legal Services Include

    Health Care Proxy:

    • Appoints a person(s) you designate to make decisions regarding your health care treatment in the event that you are unable to provide “informed consent”.

Living Will or Directive to Physicians:

    • These are “advance directives” which gives doctors and hospitals your instructions regarding the nature and extent of the care you want them to execute should you suffer permanent incapacity, such as an irreversible coma.

Durable Power of Attorney for Property:

    •  Appoints a person you designate to act for you and handle financial matters should you be unable or unavailable to do so.

    Will:

    • Sometimes called a “Last Will and Testament”, can transfer property you hold in your name to the person(s) and/or organization(s) you want to have it after your death.
    • A Will typically names someone you select to be your Personal Representative (or “Executor”) to carry out your instructions and names a Guardian if you have minor children. A Will becomes effective upon your death, and after it is admitted to probate.
